Sightseeing boats cruising on the Vltava River in Prague is the subject of this week’s outtake from my book, ‘Cruising the World, From Gondolas to Megaships.’
One-hour to 3-hour Vltava cruises, some with dinner and musical entertainment, provide panoramic views of Charles Bridge, Prague Castle, Kampa Island, and other highlights of the fascinating ‘City of a Thousand Spires.’
While trans-European river cruise ships don’t dock at Prague, it’s often included as the beginning or end of the itineraries of several river cruise companies, such as Viking, Uniworld, AMA Waterways, Emerald, Avalon, or CroisiEurope as a transfer destination.
Following a one or two-night stay in Prague, passengers are bused to cities on the Danube to meet their ships for cruises that may also go to the Main, Rhine or Moselle Rivers. Cruises on the Elbe River also may use a transit to Prague as an end destination.
Several of these cruise itineraries and companies are prominently featured in ‘Cruising the World” (now available with free shipping – code SHIPFREE – at www.DennisCox.com). A single cruise boat on the Vltava with a closer view of the Prague skyline was chosen to be included in the book.
