A river cruise longship docked at night on the River Danube by the Chain Bridge at Budapest is this week’s outtake from my book, ‘Cruising the World – From Gondolas to Megaships’ (copies available now with free shipping – use code SHIPFREE).
Many trans-Europe cruises via the Danube begin or end in Budapest, a halfway point between Amsterdam and the Black Sea. An extra day or two pre- or post-cruise can be well spent exploring the 3 unified cities — Buda and Óbuda on the west bank of the Danube and Pest on the flat east bank. As a UNESCO World Heritage Site, there is much to see and do in one of the most beautiful cities in Europe.
