Chen Yajiang
1931-1997

In China, the name of Chen Yajiang is equated with photographs of the dramatic karst landscapes surrounding Guilin's Li River in the same way Ansel Adams is identified with California's Yosemite in the United States. For over four decades Chen used his unique knowledge of local conditions and seasonal changes to compose a legacy of exquisite artistic expressions that document the area prior to its becoming China's premier tourist destination. His award-winning works, which are well known in Hong Kong and throughout China where nearly every pictorial published contained his photographs, reflect the romance and spirit of traditional Chinese painting.
